Kerala Launches Norka Care Plus: Comprehensive Health Cover for Expatriates
The Kerala Government’s NORKA Roots has introduced ‘Norka Care Plus’, a comprehensive health and accident insurance scheme designed specifically for expatriate Keralites. Enrollment for the second phase of this scheme is currently open and will close on September 18, 2026. Applications must be submitted online through the official NORKA Roots website, and the scheme is available exclusively to expatriates registered with NORKA Roots. The initiative serves as a vital safety net against unexpected health crises and high medical expenses during life abroad, while also enabling expatriates to secure the health and financial well-being of their families back home.
A key highlight of the scheme is its extensive cashless treatment facility, which covers approximately 24,000 hospitals across India, including 688 hospitals in Kerala. This wide network ensures that expatriates and their families can avail medical treatment anywhere in the country without the burden of upfront payments. A major feature that sets this scheme apart is its coverage of pre-existing medical conditions, offering significant relief to those who might otherwise struggle to secure insurance. Although primarily an individual policy, those opting for coverage of ₹10 lakh or more can include their parents up to 80 years of age in the plan, providing crucial support for elderly family members.
The scheme offers flexible coverage options with one-time premium rates designed to suit different needs. For ₹5 lakh coverage, the premium is ₹5,499; for ₹10 lakh, it is ₹9,833; for ₹15 lakh, it is ₹12,839; for ₹20 lakh, it is ₹13,829; for ₹25 lakh, it is ₹14,556; for ₹50 lakh, it is ₹15,231; and for ₹1 crore coverage, the premium is ₹19,439. Insurance coverage commences 30 days after purchasing the policy, giving applicants peace of mind knowing that their health and financial security are safeguarded against unforeseen circumstances.
This scheme helps expatriates avoid heavy financial burdens arising from unexpected health issues or accidents, making it highly beneficial for those living and working abroad. Enrollment can be conveniently completed through Akshaya Centres, the NORKA Roots website at norkaroots.kerala.gov.in, or the NORKA Care Plus mobile app. With the deadline of September 18, 2026 approaching, expatriates are encouraged to enroll promptly to take advantage of this comprehensive insurance plan.
