Jeevamrutham: How to Brew Your Own Powerful Organic Liquid Fertilizer at Home

Jeevamrutham (also known as Jeevamrut) is a highly powerful, 100% organic liquid fertilizer and plant growth booster used widely in Zero Budget Natural Farming (ZBNF). Rather than directly providing nutrients like chemical fertilizers, it acts as a microbial culture that introduces millions of beneficial bacteria and fungi into your soil, making locked-up nutrients easily accessible to your plants. The best part is that you can brew your own batch at home using simple, natural ingredients. പച്ച ചാണകം ഗോമൂത്രം ചേർക്കാതെ തയ്യാറാക്കുന്ന വിധം വീഡിയോ കാണാൻ ക്ലിക്ക്

For a standard 200-liter batch, you will need a large plastic drum, 10 kg of fresh desi cow dung, 5 to 10 liters of desi cow urine (aged works best), 2 kg of jaggery or organic sugarcane juice, 2 kg of pulse flour (besan or any lentil powder), a handful of uncontaminated soil from the base of a banyan tree or a chemical-free forest ridge, and approximately 150–170 liters of water. If you have a small home garden, you can easily scale these quantities down—for example, divide everything by 10 for a 20-liter bucket. To prepare, mix the cow dung and cow urine with a little water in a separate bucket until it forms a smooth slurry without clumps. Dissolve the jaggery and pulse flour in another container with a few liters of water. Pour 150 liters of clean, chlorine-free water into your main drum, then add the cow dung mixture followed by the dissolved jaggery and pulse flour. Throw in the handful of forest or banyan tree soil and stir the entire mixture thoroughly.

Place the drum in a cool, shady spot away from direct sunlight and cover the mouth with a breathable jute bag or cotton cloth to keep insects out while allowing gases to escape. Stir the mixture twice a day—once in the morning and once in the evening—using a wooden stick, always stirring clockwise for 2–3 minutes to aerate the solution. Leave it to ferment for 4 to 7 days. You will notice a mild, fermented, sour smell and small bubbles forming on the surface, indicating that your beneficial microbes have multiplied into billions and the Jeevamrutham is ready. For application, the best method is soil drenching—pour the liquid directly onto the soil around the root zones of your plants or mix it into your regular irrigation water or drip systems, ensuring it is strained well first so it doesn’t clog nozzles. You can also use it as a foliar spray by filtering the liquid through a fine cloth, diluting it with water at a 1:10 ratio (1 liter of Jeevamrutham to 10 liters of water), and spraying it directly onto plant leaves to prevent pests and boost leaf growth.

Because Jeevamrutham is a living bacterial culture, it does not keep indefinitely. It is most potent and effective between 7 to 12 days after preparation, so try to utilize the entire batch within 10 to 14 days maximum, as the microbial count will begin to rapidly drop after that point. By following this simple brewing process and applying it at the right time, home gardeners and farmers alike can harness the power of billions of beneficial microbes to enrich their soil, boost plant growth, and move one step closer to completely chemical-free farming.
